A frequent question of potential clients, “How about my credit score?”
I think this question should be broken down into 2 parts:
- a.) How will a bankruptcy affect me pre-bankruptcy? It probably won’t. Ask yourself, can I get credit now? For most people the answer is no. I do not believe your credit score should be a concern pre-bankruptcy.
- b.) Post bankruptcy credit score. The bankruptcy will have diminished effect over time, but you will be able to get credit again, but at a higher interest rate. As some one stated on another blog, your balance sheet and a good job is more important that your credit score coming out of bankruptcy.
- c.) You should have a plan to re-establish your credit, and it is my belief step 1 should be build your the asset side of your balance sheet.
